It has been said that if you want to achieve a goal in life, you need to find someone who has achieved that goal and model them.  A similar conclusion can be drawn for a web site.  We will look at the sites that rank well for the keywords that you are targeting to see what they are doing that you might not be doing.

 

One thing to mention here is an unscrupulous practice that used to exist that we don't see too much anymore.  In the past, there have been companies that will find a competitors site and basically steal it, then send it to the search engines as their own through a method called cloaking.  If you are ever presented with such an option by an SEM firm, RUN in the other direction for this can surely get you in trouble, and get your site banned by many search engines.
